Summer Position: Gateway Dance Theatre

 

Gateway Dance Theatre has partnered with Volunteer Iowa to host an AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associate serves 8-10 weeks from May to early September2021, providing direct service and participating in capacity building projects that will strengthen Gateway Dance Theatre and support its mission to use the arts to engage, communicate, educate, and collaborate with diverse communities to enrich lives.

VISTA Members receive a bi-weekly living allowance and choice of end-of-service benefit and may qualify for credit toward required internship hours.

 

The VISTA Summer Associate with Gateway Dance Theatre will:

  • Serve as a liaison to GDT by providing technical assistance to the artists, art leaders, and cultural organizations GDT collaborates with in executing community events such as GDT's yearly SASI summer camp, stage presentations/exhibits like heritage festivals and Des Moines Arts Festival

  • Assist in planning and coordinating activities such as workshops, classes, and webinars connecting  artists, arts leaders, and cultural organizations to best practices in the field.

 12 month Position: Gateway Dance Theatre  

Gateway Dance Theatre has partnered with Volunteer Iowa to host an Ameri Corps VISTA Associate for this 12 month position.  The VISTA Associate serves for 12 months providing direct service and participating in capacity building projects that will strengthen Gateway Dance Theatre and support its mission to use the arts to engage, communicate, educate, and collaborate with diverse communities to enrich lives.

 

VISTA Members receive a bi-weekly living allowance, a choice of end-of-service benefit, and may qualify for credit toward required internship hours. 

 

 The VISTA Associate with Gateway Dance Theatre will: 

  •  Develop and promote community interest with agencies serving low-income and marginalized communities; and support in negotiating contracts with them to implement GDT’s ARTivism program 

  • Assist in training and providing technical assistance to artists, arts leaders, and cultural organizations GDT collaborates with for virtual or in-person events.

  • Research field trends and patterns offering resources and best practices to artists, arts leaders, and cultural organizations, contributing to preparing events best represents GDT and its vision along with its partners. 

  • Be a GDT liaison and make a difference by promoting inclusiveness in community outreach and by creating opportunities not readily available to some members of the community.
