Don Tate: Acclaimed Children's Book Author and Illustrator

Don Tate is a children's book author, illustrator, and activist with roots in Des Moines. He has written numerous award-winning picture books, and biographies and illustrated over eighty critically acclaimed educational books for youth. He actively promotes racial and cultural inclusiveness in children's literature. He co-founded the young African American blog The Brown Bookshelf and helped run the #WeNeedDiverseBooks campaign to improve the diversity of material in children's books.

He is a long-time friend of GDT and his vision of inclusivity of diverse cultures in literature resonates very closely with our mission. GDT is proud to host Don for a Family workshop. He will talk about his work and present a point of view from an illustrator/author's perspective. He will also read from a selection of his best-sellers followed by a book signing.

Beaverdale Books will be present on-site with a selection of Tate's books available for sale.
