GDT celebrates Juneteenth & Pride month by offering in-person classes!!- Two classes per evening! Mon -Thurs June 14th-18th 6:00pm-8 :00 pm. Tap dancing will be offered each evening along with Samba or Bhangra on alternate evenings. Come dance to World Rhythms!

TAP DANCE with JIMMY PAYNE JR.

Jimmy Payne Jr. Guest artist with GDT is a tap dance teacher, choreographer, and performer from Chicago. He began his tap dance lessons at Jimmy Payne School of Dance. His teacher and father was the legendary dancer, Jimmy Payne
Jimmy has performed at Chicago Jazz Festival, with jazz legend Von Freeman, with Bill Russo and Chicago Jazz Ensemble, with jazz great Orbert Davis at the Arts Club in Chicago, with jazz singer Lawrence Walden, and with Bradley Williams 21st Century Jazz Review, whom he accompanied on a trip to India for a series of concerts. Critics have described Jimmy as "a tap classicist with a composers mind," (Chicago Sun Times) "the real deal," (Maui Times) and the Chicago Tribune referred to him as "smoking virtuosity."
Jimmy also won an award from Black Theater Alliance for best performance in concert. He currently teaches at Columbia College Chicago and Chicago Public Schools. Jimmy describes his style of tap as traditional tap rooted in rhythm and movement.
SAMBA with Theresa Marie

Theresa Marie is a Samba dance performer and teacher as well as a certified personal trainer and fitness coach. She performed semi-professionally in New York City for 4 years, and the Bay Area, California for many more. She has taught Samba dance at different companies like Google and at dance/yoga studios like Stepping Out Studios and The Ball in NYC. Her teachers include Danielle Lima, Rio Samba in NYC; Rosangela Silvestre, Axe and modern technique in Salvador, Brazil; Danda da Hora from Ile Aiye; and Marsea Marquis and J’ann Rains in Santa Cruz, CA.
She loves sharing the musicality,and hip & booty shaking joy of Brazilian dance.
BHANGRA with NIK

Nik Thota a recent graduate from Iowa State University and Founder, President, Teacher, Choreographer of THE FORUM DANCE STUDIO.
Created a club that resembles a real-world dance studio, which allows students to train in all dance styles at every level.
- Organized several dance intensives which over 60 people attended.
- Teach hip hop classes twice a week.
- Organize and attend other classes including jazz, contemporary, bhangra, and more.
- Choreographed and ran the practices for the performance group.
Bhangra is an energetic folk dance from Northern India. Nik organized a performing Bhangra dance group in Ames. Bhangra is now very popular in Bollywood movies and Indian wedding parties.
