Sanaa Ya Sanaa

Sanaa ya Sanaa celebrated Black History and the Black Cultural Arts and included Family activity workshops from 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM; Refreshments from 1:30 PM – 2 PM; and An Art Showcase from 2 PM – 4 PM.
All this action happened on the 26th of February 2022, at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Gardens
GDT was delighted and ecstatic to have Simon Estes as the Guest of Honor for the event. The workshops were designed for families and friends to learn and enjoy together. Our visitors learned a little more about African culture which included fashionmusic, stories, and so many other activities! Other highlights included the showcase with Djembe African Drums, an Afro-centric fashion show, visual arts, dance, and recitals of poetry written by Langston Hughes and Amanda Gorman. We had a plethora of young and some very renowned artists as parts of our itinerary, such as the young poets from SayPoertyDSM, Tina Haase Findlay, KCCI news anchor-reporter Rheya Spigner who will MC for the event and so many more!
This event was free and open to all.
